Robotic Laparoscopic Urological Surgery

At Yorktowne Urology we have highly experienced and trained Robotic Laparoscopic surgeons. Our surgeons will diagnose, and treat a wide range of urologic conditions. Here are some diseases or disorders that affects the male reproductive organs or the male and female urinary tract (kidneys, bladder, ureters and urethra). Some common urologic conditions may include:

  • Prostate Cancer
  • Kidney Disorder or Cancer
  • Bladder Cancer
  • Urinary Blockage

Types of Surgery

When lifestyle changes, medicine or other options do not ease your symptoms, your doctor may suggest surgery.

Surgery can include:

  • Open surgery (through one large incision)
  • Minimally Invasive Surgery (Laparoscopic / Robotic–assisted da Vinci Surgery) done through a few small incisions

Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death among men in the United States. Prostate cancer usually grows very slowly, and finding and treating it before symptoms occur may not improve men's health or help them live longer.

Treatment Options for Prostate Cancer

When prostate cancer is believed to be still localized within the prostate gland, there are essentially five treatment options available to a patient:

  • Observation (watchful waiting)
  • Hormonal therapy (non curative)
  • Removal of the cancerous prostate (radical prostatectomy)
  • Radiation of the cancerous prostate (either external radiation or radioactive seed implants)
  • Freezing of the cancerous prostate (cryosurgery)

Patients should discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each treatment approach with their doctor. For localized prostate cancer, radical prostatectomy (surgical removal of the prostate and surrounding cancerous tissues) has historically been considered the “gold standard” or definitive way to remove the cancer.
